Vince Gill Plays Duane Allman’s 1957 Les Paul
While in Macon to play a benefit concert for the Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia, Vince Gill was asked by the Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House if he’d like to play Duane Allman’s 1957 Les Paul Gold Top guitar. Having been an Allman Brothers fan from his earliest years as a picker, Gill jumped at the chance and played the legendary instrument on a few songs. Here’s a clip featuring a couple of really fine solos, and even through the inexpensive microphone of a handheld camera, you can hear both the special tone of this guitar and Gill’s brilliant evocation of Duane Allman’s playing.
