Greetings
This is my first post. I’m looking forward to sharing insights, opinions and whatever else seems interesting. I stumbled onto this site a few days ago and was surprised, although not shocked, to find my old friend, Barry Dredze, hanging out here. I’ll apologize publicly to Barry for not maintaining contact terribly well over the years, but I do enjoy playing the CDs he sends to me, especially the Bob Dylan concert in which Bob plays “Old Man”, “Brown Sugar” and a couple of Warren Zevon tunes, as Warren was dying of cancer in California. Anyway, I’m from the heartland (Illinois) originally, but I’ve spent the last twenty plus years bouncing back and forth between California and Washington. I’m currently in Bellingham, WA, and I believe, at this point in my life, I’lll just stay put. Just a little more than a week ago, I enjoyed a day at the Darrington Bluegrass Festival.
Otherwise, I haven’t been hearing enough live music these days. I’m heavily into Bob Dylan, Neil Young, John Prine, Patti Smith, Greg Brown, Iris Dement, Richard Thompson, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Van Morrison, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt and many, many others. Not enough women… I know. I love Joni Mitchell at certain points of her career, but not all. I’ve gained a new appreciation for Joan Baez recently. Her album “Day After Tomorrow” is terrific. I also love Miles Davis, but perhaps this isn’t the right place to admit that. So you’ll be hearing more from me in the days and weeks and months and years to come, God willing. I’m looking forward to hearing from other folks who are passionate about music. Not Britney Spears…. the good stuff. I’m glad I found this site.
