Genius of the Lamp
Yeah, I watched a lot of Bugs Bunny cartoons when I was a kid.
I’ll tell you though, I’ve been walking around calling Ray Charles “The Genius” for so long that we were always just content to call Chris Thile, well…Chris Thile.
That may need to be changing now that the man has one of them MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship deals. First time we saw him perform was at The Del Mar Fair just north of San Diego. And I’ll tell you what, at age eight he was already laying it down.
Bunch of new and new-ish stuff to share this week, including a live one from Chris Thile’s band The Punch Brothers. John Hiatt, Mumford & Sons, Los Straitjackets, The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, The Avett Brothers, The Shelby County Sinners, Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, Petunia &The Vipers, Nick Lowe, JD McPherson…all kinda stuff.
Even have some old Taj Mahal material that was recently released on a collection called “Hidden Treasures.” And it’s late 60s early 70s material, so yes, the great Jesse Ed Davis is featured on guitar.
We’ll be needing to work at least one from Yonder Mountain String Band in, considering they’re coming to The Vogue here in Indy on October 18th. Have a feeling it’ll be their rendition of a certain John Hartford number about a “number.”
Redbud Radio airs at Midnight (Eastern) Saturday night/Sunday morning on WICR 88.7 FM in Indianapolis and Sunday evening at 6PM (Central) on Dewberry Jam Community Radio in San Antonio, Texas.
