Bill Carter’s “Anything Made of Paper” was written as a present for Damien Echols of the West Memphis Three when he was on death row. Bill and his wife Ruth set out to write a song about love and tragedy. Johnny Depp plays slide guitar on the track, and has played it live alongside Bill on several occasions, including the Voices for Justice Concert and Rally in Little Rock, AR and on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2013
The animated music video is a fictional re-telling of the story that inspired Bill to write the song in the first place, and echoes the hope we all must cling to in the face of injustice.
The song was also featured in Peter Jackson’s documentary West of Memphis.
Directed by Brandon Ray & Pat Kondelis. Animated by Brandon Ray.
