The “new” Freight & Salvage, Dr K & a band not to miss (Misner & Smith)
The Freight & Salvage Coffee House in Berkeley Ca. is the West Coasts premier performance venue for “roots” type musicians.
After years of serious fundraising they moved to the theater district in Berkeley & the venue is very condusive to live performance & the long time non profit offers an eclectic calender & a variety of lessons in an almost upscale setting.
Dr K has an almost monthly series where his handpicked “best of” bands (3 per show) get a chance to shine on this storied stage.
His opening comments re: the series intentions “…these are bands deserving of national recognition…if there is any justice you won’t see these bands in this setting again…they will have earned there own night at the Freight…”
Misner & Smith stole the show & as opening act set a v high bar…songs, performance, arrangements…I felt sorry for the capable acts who followed…Misner & Smith have 3 discs on Poor Player records available @ CD Baby, itunes etc…there is not a “dud” song on the bunch…this is v special writing & the singing is “spine chillingly good” pax doug strobel
