    Also passing away in November, on the 15th, was Rainer Ptacek, the renowned steel guitarist from Tucson, Arizona, who was the subject of two recent tribute albums designed to raise funds to combat a brain tumor that was first diagnosed in February 1996. Wood For Rainer: A Wooden Ball Compilation, on Epiphany Records, featured local players from the Tucson scene, while the Atlantic Records disc The Inner Flame (reviewed in ND #11, Sept.-Oct. ’97) included contributions from Robert Plant, Emmylou Harris, PJ Harvey, and Jonathan Richman.
