Partial transcript of our live chat with Justin Townes Earle
Thanks to everyone who showed up yesterday afternoon for the live chat with Justin Townes Earle (and rolled with us on the postponement). Our apologies to those of you whose questions we didn’t get around to, but time was of the essence. Below you’ll find a partial transcript of the chat, in case you couldn’t find a computer to which you could attach yourself for that window of time.
(Unfortunately, Ning’s chat function doesn’t currently save chats, meaning the chat memory is cleared every however-many minutes. Now that I know this, I can accommodate future artist chats by copying everything halfway through. In the case of Justin Townes Earle, the first half of the chat will just have to be a fond memory those of us online at the time can share in our hearts and minds.)
Just before the chat history was swept, Tiffany had asked Justin who his greatest hero was, which then gave way to the following:
Michael Patrick: Justin, why not playing “Desolate” live anymore?
Justin: Tiffany – Fiorelo Laguardia (not sure on the spelling)…Fiorella Laguardia is the correct spelling. He was just a real special guy. They called him the little flower. He was supposed to be a big kid in a three-piece suit. He was the former mayor of New York, used to be in the Macy’s parade, around the 20s or 30s.
Justin: Michael – I retired that the day my grandfather passed away a year after he passed away. It’s gone.
Tiffany: Gots it! Cool. Your show at the Cactus in Austin last year is one of my favorite concerts ever-such a treat!
Justin: Thank you, darlin’.
Tiffany: Thank you!
Alex Cantrill: How’s Charley or Cory Younts holdin up on the road…yall are just an awesome duo together!
Justin: Cory is in the very able arms of his girlfriend right now, having some rest.
Laura: What brand of guitar do you prefer to use?
Michael Patrick: He seems to really be coming out of his shell lately! Isn’t there a notable Dad connection with Corey?
Justin: Baxendale guitars out of Denver, Colorado.
No Depression: Desolation Row asked, “There’s been mention of a 3rd album already recorded when will that see the light of day?”
Justin: I’ve got three more albums in mind…no recording anytime soon though.
Sarah: !!!
Laura Barber: whoa! lucky us!
No Depression: Desolation Row also asked: “Will there be a return trip to UK in the foreseeable future?”
Justin: Yes, we kind of have to…but nothing planned yet.
No Depression: Time for one more question. Anyone got anything else?
Kat Smith: Justin – what are ya reading at the moment?
Justin: 1776. It’s the story of the events that took place at the beginning of the Revolutionary War from Boston to the fall of New York City.
Kat Smith: Is it good?
Justin: Hell yes.
No Depression: Alright y’all, that’s all we have time for – thanks for joining in!
Laura Barber: Thank you Justin!
Alex Cantrill: Thanks again.
Kat Smith: Thanks!
No Depression: We’ll have another live chat with the Greencards coming up in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned.
