New disc from Rhonda Vincent, and some guy on the ukulele
Just got a bit of news from Rounder Records in ye olde email today, announcing a new disc forthcoming from bluegrass superqueen extraordinaire Rhonda Vincent. The album, due June 16, is to be called Destination Life and will feature the multi-award-winning touring line-up for her band the Rage. Vincent co-wrote three of the tunes herself, including the album opener.
She also pulls out traditionals like “Eighth of January,” which I happen to love. Thinking it would be great to see Vincent and the Rage attack that tune, I went searching through the YouTubes to find video of them playing it so I could share with you folks. Instead, I found this guy doing a terrific rendition on ukulele:
That was so good, I wound up watching several of his videos. You can check out his YouTube channel, where he plays a number of obscure old timey tunes on ukulele and some sort of uke-banjo hybrid. (Apparently, uncleverly, the thing is just called a banjo uke. In my own mind, I will continue to think of it as a banjulele.)
As for Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, they’re on the road right now and it looks like they’ll be out there until the end of November. A full list of dates are at RhondaVincent.com
