Lonnie Glosson: 1908 to 2001
Acknowledged as one of country music’s greatest harmonica players, Arkansas native Lonnie Glosson died March 2 at age 93. Glosson was a regular on Chicago radio station WLS’ National Barn Dance show and various other country radio programs from the 1930s through the ’50s. Glosson was a mentor to fellow harmonica legend Wayne Raney (the two recorded an album together in 1980), and he wrote the gospel classic “Matthew Twenty-Four” (recorded by George Jones and Kitty Wells, among others).
