Bluegrass legend Del McCoury is thanked by songwriters Donna Ulisse & Jerry Salley
Songwriters Donna Ulisse and Jerry Salley recently had the opportunity to thank bluegrass icon Del McCoury in person for recording their song “Butler Brothers” on the new Del McCoury Band album The Streets of Baltimore.
The song is a tragic and chilling story of two brothers fighting on different sides during the Civil War and was inspired by a Virginia court document acquired by Ulisse’s husband telling of his great-great-great-great grandfather who actually did fight against his own brother during the War Between The States.
The songwriting team caught up with Del last week in Raleigh, North Carolina at the International Bluegrass Music Assocation Awards where Ulisse was nominated for Songwriter of the Year and Salley had one of his songs nominated in the Song of the Year Category. The Del McCoury Band was nominated for Entertainer of the Year.
“Butler Brothers” can be heard by visiting the Del McCoury Band website where the complete album is being streamed. You can also order on the site store.
