Danielle Nicole Schnebelen was the sister in the sibling blues group Trampled Under Foot, she has gone out on her own and this disc was done with Anders Osborne in the producers chair. You can feel the influence of New Orleans through and through on this disc and as importantly in her. This is solid chunky disc that brings that added dimension of what New Orleans is to music and to her. She assimilated down to the core and it comes through. She has always played the blues but now it is the funky blues with that extra added edge, listen and you’ll feel it.
Mr. Osborne took Danielle to New Orleans and immersed her in the culture of funk and blues that thrives there and he has brought in some of his friends, additional folks from the South to play on this disc. Danielle plays the bass (a very powerful and dominate bass player) and does the lead vocals, Anders is the guitar player of record here and Luther Dickinson plays on 2 cuts; “I Feel Like Breakin’ up Somebody’s Home” and “Waiting On Your Love,” you also have the incomparable Stanton Moore on drums, and Mike “Shinetop” Sedovic on keyboards rounding out the band.
Danielle and Anders wrote 7 of the songs together, she wrote 2 by herself and one with Mike Sedovic, Anders one and there is a cover of Al Jackson Jr. and Timothy L. Mathews “I Feel Like Breakin’ up Somebody’s Home. The songwriting is strong and between Stanton and Danielle there is a very solid foundation for the others to use as a spring board from which to reach for the top floors. If you saw Trampled Under Foot you know as solid a footing as she lays down she also is quite skilled at using the Bass Guitar as a lead instrument. Suffice it to say that the playing here is way excellent as all the musicians are use to the spotlight and shine when in it.
