Kinky Friedman – Last Of The Jewish Cowboys: The Best Of Kinky Friedman
Just as he has avoided major political parties in his bid to be governor of Texas, Kinky Friedman has steered clear of mainstream country music, preferring to be an independent. Like Randy Newman, Kinky crafts songs with humor, satire and parody. “Get Your Biscuits In The Ovens And Your Buns In The Bed” and “They Ain’t Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore” remain as memorable as their titles. Kinky pushed the boundaries of taste with songs about a mass murderer (“The Ballad Of Charles Whitman”) and a nose picker (“Old Ben Lucas”). He could also play it straight with “Sold American” and “People Who Read People Magazine”, a pair of effective tales about musicians down on their luck.
