Merle Haggard - Working In Tennessee by Vanguard Records
What can be written about Merle Haggard that hasn't already been said? It nearly goes without saying that he's a legend in his field and the inspiration for generations of other singer-songwriters.
On Oct. 4, he has a new album coming out titled Working in Tennessee, and we've teamed up with the fine folks at Vanguard Records to offer you an advanced stream of the album above. You can listen as often as you'd like for this week - the stream is available through Friday, Sep. 30.
But wait, there's more. The folks at Vanguard have also given us two copies of the album on vinyl, to give away to two lucky ND community members.
To win a copy of Working in Tennessee on vinyl, simply listen to the album a few times, then scroll to the bottom of this page and leave a comment with your thoughts. Is there a song that sticks out most for you? Why? Anything surprising here? Any songs you'd have liked to see included, but are missing? Leave it all in the comments.
You have until 11:59 p.m. PST on Friday, Sep. 30, 2011, to enter this contest. Comments left on Facebook or submitted via Twitter or separate blog posts on this site will not be considered. Feel free to comment more than once, however. We just ask you to make sure your comment is posted on this page and not elsewhere.
Once the contest closes, we'll choose two winners at random and announce them the following day. We hope you enjoy the stream, and wish you good luck in the contest.

Comment by Cody White on September 27, 2011 at 9:32am "Gotta be more demanding, down at the corner pub..." I suppose the current issues in country music are pretty self evident nowadays but Merle makes a great case that true country is not dead with not just the song "Too Much Boogie Woogie" but with the album as a whole. From the upbeat, fast paced numbers like the rollicking version of "Working Man Blues" to the slow and biting "What I Hate," everything comes together in a great balance. And I can't listen to "Down on the Houseboat" and not think of all of the crazy stories he wrote in his autobiography!
