Well color me red guys...really appreciate the kind words Ed and your CD is in the mail. Feel better. Have always been a ND fan and ran my first tiny print ad in 1998. Thanks for all the work you guys do to keep this train rolling. I will upload a…

kelly pardekooper replied to Kimberely Grant's discussion 'Great Article on a band's ability to DIY' in the group Los Angeles and beyond Chapter
This is great! I've lived this exact musical life...will be curious to see how the "crowdfunding" works. A great idea for any indie act that has built a bit of a following. Cheers! KP

Just booked a little solo gig in Hollywood for this Saturday January 9th. It's part of a monthly songwriter series and my time slot is 8pm. $10 cover and Karen and I will be giving away free CD's too. One of my New Year's resolutions is to try and play a bit more live music in 2010! Don't know much about this venue...but gotta start somewhere in lala land I suppose. Please spread the word if you have peeps in LA. New songs and album #6 in the works. Addy below.Cranes is located between the…See More

Yes, the golden rule and these mountains I love are the closest I've come to God in this lifetime. Seems a very private decision and missionizing has always turned me off...the thought of any group absolutely takin' it to the street…

This is truly valuable stuff, indeed. But it also serves as verification that you're doing something RIGHT when you realize you're already operating under several of these notions. It's definitely easier for some than others to Ignore…

Ignore Everybody...

Warning, this blog is long. Posted on my website recently and wanted to share with ND crew. My current day gig is at an old Hollywood prop shop....the trendy film and television folks who use our biz are a constant source of amusement and song fodder. Since I was 14 years old, I have always had some type of job or work that was not at all music related. And have always felt this was a big part of my songwriting… just the regular day to day living, breathing and bumping up against other…

HBO - True Blood

A quick update from LaLa land. Just got word from my music publisher that HBO used a couple of my songs in their True Blood vampire television series. “Wild Love” from my Haymaker Heart album and “Fly on the Wall” from Johnson County Snow album. On iTunes, “Wild Love” immediately became my most downloaded song and I have gotten tons of strange emails out of the blue the past few days. Man…teenagers really drive the TV economic engine it seems. I don’t normally get a heads-up, but I believe the… Continue

Iowa to Los Angeles...

Never had a Facebook account and gleefully killed the MySpace page some time ago....yet here I am checking in from lala land hoping this new ND community thang works out. It's a funny push and pull between the frequent desire for organic disconnect (songwriter) and the love/addiction for digital community (mostly broke-ass songwriter).

So I followed my wife's new non-profit medical gig to Los Angeles about seven months ago from Iowa City. Some random observations from a corn-cob… Continue

Hey Kelly! You really struck a cord with your "Ignore Everyone" blog post. It's the second most viewed page on the entire site with over 5,000 page views to date! It must have been forwarded around a ton. Thanks!

hi Kelly,
I've wanted to write to you since I joined this site.
I was touched and inspired by what you wrote in regard to Jay Bennett.
I had a story with Jay also.
Somehow, I used your profile page as my bookmark.
I write now because, as a songwriter, I am excited about that tv show using your material. That is an amazing thing, and so great when it comes one's way. I've enjoyed listening to you on here, and I am seldom entertained.
Here's one of my alter egos: myspace.com/paging_michael_ellis

rock on.
