CD Review - Leonard Cohen "The Best Of"

I know this is not a new album...however it may deserve a second listen. I have enjoyed many hours of entertainment from this album that is something like reading one of Leonard's poetry books, but, with music accompanying it.The music and songs on this  album/CD took place mostly in the 60's & 70's. This was light years before Leonard went "Euro-tech" in the late 1980's with "I'm Your Man." As time has marched on I think I prefer this older Cohen although I did see his "Man" tour in 1988.…See More

CD Review - William Burroughs "Call Me Burroughs"

Most well known for his book and the film: "Naked Lunch", William Burroughs is probably the most entertaining writers/poets for an audio reading out of the entire "Beat Poet" group. You cannot escape the droll monotone sound of his voice which makes each poem endlessly fun in a very bizzare way. This audio recording was made in 1965, and in my opinion it is not only timeless but also ahead of it's time. Note the way that Burroughs reads his work not unlike a computer if they had a voice. He's…See More

Random Manor "Seattle City Limits" CD EP/LP Review

"Random Manor" is not what I expected at all, and, I was pleasantly surprised upon my first listen."Diamond" Don Short is formerly 1/2 of the brilliant team that made up Seattle's "The Heats."  A very big Seattle band from the early 80's that I've already reviewed here. But now Don's singin' a different tune. Much less on the nasal vocals with more on the twang without being corny at all. (Nashville, you may start taking notes here). Don's new band..."Random Manor," has a great rockin groove…See More

"Could The Second Beatles Have Existed In Seattle In The Early 80's?" (A Short Story About The Heats)

Sometime in the late 70's, Singer/Songwriter Steve Pearson met Don Short, another Singer/Songwriter in a suburb of Seattle. Ironically these to rock & roll heroes had a-lot in common. They both played excellent barking electric guitars, they both loved great pop songs by such groups as The Beatles & Rolling Stones, and, their voices melded together just like Lennon & McCartney. Not a bad combination at all.Their biggest hit single was a clever short pop song written by Steve called:…See More

Dear Tim - thanks for your nice words about my Bobbie Gentry piece!  "Ode to Billie Joe" was one of my favorite songs from childhood. It seemed so spooky to me, and I love spooky things. The violins in that song give it such a haunting feel.  Bobbie and Glen did record an album together in 1968. I saw Glen in Pittsburgh a few months back and he was AMAZING!  Made me cry!  Again, I appreciate your support.  Dana

Tim- Thanks for staying in touch. I've send a Friend Request your way.  I always tell interested folk that my primary claim to fame during my dozen active years in the music biz is working with the bass players for both Buddys--Buddy Holly AND Buddy Knox. I worked for Jimmy Bowen and Waylon Jennings. No wonder I'm writing and talking about those two legends almost 40(!) years later.  By the way, both men wrote very good autobiographies.
