Bluegrass meets Death Metal

As a guy who has been known to crank up an album like Slaughter of the Soul by Swedish death metal legends At The Gates, I was intrigued to discover Slaughter of the Bluegrass today.

Quirky covers can be really annoying a high percentage of the time, so I actually pleased to discover that SOTB's version of Amon Amarth's "Twilight of the… Continue

Catching Dave here March 9.  Thinking hard about driving up to Milwaukee for his show at Shank Hall on March 1.  However, at 51, the thought of getting back home around 1 having to be up at 5 for an early meeting takes some of the shine…

I haven't seen him live, but I'd love to.  He's not quite as good a guitar-player as Dave Alvin, but a lot of his songs remind me of Alvin's narrative sweep -- he's a very gifted song-writer.  And, like Alvin, he…

David,  have you seen Kevin Gordon live?  Hope so.  The stage dynamics, guitar tones, the ebb and flow within his songs done live is compelling.  I try to catch him each time he comes through town, including this Saturday opening…

@Easy Ed: Bap Kennedy has long been an under-the-radar treasure.  Have you listened to Domestic Blues from, I think, the late 80s?  A still-fresh classic.  Say ... did you get the digital version of his new album?  I can't…

Been listening these last two days to two new ones that have an early lead on my Best of 2012 list (although, so far, the bar is admittedly not very high in that regard):     Kevin Gordon: Gloryland. This is an astounding Americana/Rock…

Will have to check out Duluth. Just recently discovered the Turtles, but I love 'em. Gonna see them in Charlottesville. Va. in April. Thanks

Nice, as always. He's a Mt. Stage fav, and has been here at least 6 times. I have 3 or 4 of them and keep meaning to put them on a CD or two. I did not get any pictures as the mikes & cords prevented an obstacle. I once saw him here during a huge snowstorm, and he dedicated a song to his wife Tina and added that she was not there that night as she had "an aversion to snow." Sweet & funny.

I made my own 80 minute album of the latest Mt. Stage show with acoustics sets from Neko Case, Vic Chestnutt and Greg Brown.
