Astonishing country-noir songstress from Vancouver. Possesses a voice to die for and her songs will just knock you off your feet. "Sarah's music is honest, open, and beautiful - it makes an immediate emotional connection with the listener." Steve Bellamy, Juno-winning Music Producer "Sarah MacDougall was mesmerising and gave a truly blinding performance. The audience raved over her magnificent vocals and delightful songs - many of which were full of quirky lyrics about life as it is today...Sarah's songs mixed traditional country with a dash of folk resulting in a phenomenal sound." - Maverick Magazine
"If June Carter and Johnny Cash were to have a menage a trois with a Swedish minstrel in some dark alley, their offspring would be country-noir songstress, Sarah MacDougall."
Swedish-born songwriter, Sarah MacDougall is a storyteller, entertainer and pop-troubadour with a haunting voice and songs to match. She delivers each song with passion and depth: her music rips your heart out, twists it around and then, gently coaxes it back home. Combining the raw, rustic quality of lonesome country tales with warm folk melodies, Sarah writes about love, heartbreak, crows and living (and leaving) in the city. Now living in Vancouver, BC, Sarah captures her audience with her spontaneous stage presence and a Scandinavian-Folk Americana style that has earned her the reputation as one of the most interesting emerging singer/songwriters of the Canadian West.
Over the last year, Sarah has been touring successfully in Western Canada, Ontario, New York, England, Sweden, Denmark and Poland, both solo and as part of two separate songwriter's collectives: Women in the Round (with Kate Reid and Joanna Chapman-Smith) and Atlantic Crossing (with Corbin Murdoch and Melisa Devost). She will continue to tour in 2008 both solo and with her band, to support her next album, 'Across the Atlantic', due for release in Canada on Vancouver roots-rock indie label Copperspine Records in November.
When Sarah isn’t touring solo, she plays and records with her band, 'The Heroes'. The group consists of Tim Tweedale on steels and trumpet, Russell Sholberg on bass, and Shawn Killaly on drums. Sarah MacDougall and the Heroes have previously opened for Po'Girl, Todd Snyder, Black Mountain, to name but a few, and they put on a great, energetic show that leave their audiences breathless!
