Brilliant. I had to share with some friends.

We'll see large labels again, but the landscape will look a bit different when the dust clears. Streaming is the next phase, why download when every song ever recorded will be available for streaming? Who needs to pay for all that extra disc…

I can't stand Sinatra. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. It sounds like he's biting off the end of each line.

Last night/Sam Baker

I saw Sam baker last night at the Effenaar in Eindhoven, might make it out to see him at the Roepaen in Ottersum. I had no idea how much I would enjoy the show, but the man is convincing. Giving his discs another listen after seeing him live seems to add new layers to his story telling. I've heard that the funniest people often come from some of the most tragic circumstances and Sam qualifies. Watching his between song banter and chatting with him afterwards, the man is genuinely witty and…See More

The Rural Alberta Advantage has a new album, Hometowns, which is full of songs about, well . . . hometowns.

Oh gawd yes, if I never hear another shitty Dead bootleg it'll be too soon. I'd like to add Phish to this list, as well every other noodly jam band. I'd rather stick a fork in my ear.

I actually like a good fire and brimstone gospel song. Bluegrass as well. But I expect it from either genre, as opposed to rock/pop. As Grant mentioned the sales tool aspect, Christian (popular) music strikes me as specifically written to try to…

I am so loving Rural Alberta Advantage's "Hometowns" right now, I have to hear it a few times a day. Singer Nils Edenloff's voice may not be to everyone's liking, a bit nasally, although I think it adds to the evotive nature…

Thinking more about it, I have no problem with music with spiritual or religious themes, Joseph Arthur for example, as he doesn't come across as preachy. He's telling a story, and religion being a part of about 90% of my fellow…

Johnny'll have a new record out next march. From the press release: “My new album is going to take us back to the days when soul music and garage rock collided. Lots of fuzz bass, farfisa, and and ‘my baby left me’ lyrics. In…

Christian music pretty much weirds me out. Especially harder rock stuff. It just seems wrong if it's too wholesome. Rock and roll should be nasty and sweaty and a backdrop to a misspent youth, not purity promises and clean living. It ain't…

Sandy! How are you, you crazywoman?? Give me the scoop, tell me what's new with you.

Man, we had some fun back on the old ND board, didn't we? I always loved your left-field hilarious posts.

Here's the skinny on me: got married a little over a year ago to a great girl who's an NPR radio announcer here in Memphis... bought a little house about two months ago (just one freakin' week after losing my job -- scary!) ... currently managing a wine/liquor store, and drinking like a fish (I hope that part wears off soon.)

As for music, I don't get around much anymore -- maybe 5-6 shows a year. When you're old and married, home-cooking and the sofa looks awfully good at night.

I am SO damn glad you wrote!

Welcome to No Depresson, Sandy. Sounds like you're pretty familiar w/the scene in the Netherlands. I manage Star Anna & The Laughing Dogs and we get a fair amount of interest from there; we're Indie and are interested in what it would take to tour. dave@starannamusic.com if you want to discuss it!
