Jon Rauhouse at Phoenix's New Crescent Ballroom (Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012)

Jon Rauhouse has won fans worldwide via his stints as a multi-instrumentalist with Neko Case, and with Jon Langford and others in the Bloodshot Records stable before that.

But many Arizona fans have followed the long-time Phoenician since even earlier, from his decade…

The Concert for Civility, Respect and Understanding, One Year Later

Many thanks to all who read, commented on and circulated my magnum opus about the first Concert for Civility, Respect and Understanding organized by Jackson Browne last March to memorialize the victims and the emotional impact on our community of the January 8, 2011 shootings.

If you missed that lengthy review, which covered all the damaged parts the music touched, you'll find it here in…

Jonathan Holden, Rhythm & Roots Concert Series Founder and Promoter Passed Away Today

The Tucson roots music community is shaken this evening by the sudden and unexpected death of long-time Tucson music promoter Jonathan Holden from a pulmonary aneurism. He was 60.

Holden's Rhythm & Roots Concert Series has for 13 years provided artists and fans of the blues, folk, singer-songwriter, and world music genres with their only reliable home in Tucson. Shows currently scheduled are expected to continue, both in the outdoor space at Plaza Palomino, and in the indoor space…

Tucson Plus Two Months: A Concert for Civility, Respect and Understanding

Photo by Elliott (More of Elliott's photos to come)

Last week an acquaintance took her mother shopping in Oro Valley, just northwest of Tucson in Congressional District 8. When she came out of the mall, her carefully preserved bumper sticker had been stripped from her car. It had read…

More Evidence ND Was/Is Ahead of Its Time

Troy Olsen made his Grand Ole Opry debut on Sunday. eight years after No Depression told you so, sort of.

You may know him, now, from the semi-ubiquitous, and blissfully summer-mindless, "Summer Thing," with which EMI Nashville switched on the launch machine. Make of it all what you will, but a) he really is a country boy/ranch hand from rural… Continue

The eagerly anticipated digital release of Kirsten DeHaan’s EP “Thorns On A Crown” is right around the corner. On Tuesday October 6, the new and highly acclaimed alternative rock singer and songwriter’s songs can be purchased at major online retailers such as iTunes, Amazon.com, Napster, and EMusic. Kirsten has developed quite a following in a relatively short period of time, because of the uniqueness of her voice and style, which has been compared to the sweetness of Liz Phair, a soft, airy quality like that of Sia, and the rich alto of Fiona Apple.

In the meantime, register and download her single "1984" for free at HYPERLINK "http://kdlocal.com" http://kdlocal.com

Hey, Linda. Thanks for being the founder of the 2 groups I've found so far. A balky, aged computer is slowing my responses, particularly on Yahoo, but I'll get it shortly. Have to say that the folks in the ND group seem pretty professional. I'll be one of the quiter members until I learn my way around; have the feeling y'all have quite the history together. Dan

Thanks to Linda I've learned quite a bit about alt.country. I only wish I had kept my mouth shut and ears open when her advice and perception were more "accessible."

Hi Linda ... I think you joined the Robbie Fulks board a while back ... it's in the midst of an overall ... some might say a meltdown ... Robbie is moving to Brooklyn and says he wants a more commercial site rather than one with six psychos chatting about anything but him. I guess I'm one of the six. Just thought I'd let you know in case you ever strolled back over there. Saludos, Duvi
