Sorry kids, but it looks like this show is no longer on the Church schedule or Deadstring Brothers websites... It was originally listed for Aug 11. Maybe drown your sorrows at Toad's Aug residency instead; Christian McNeill, Tim Gearan, Jimmy Ryan…

Charlie Louvin has a new album out called "Hickory Wind: Live at the Gram Parsons Guitar Pull, Waycross, GA". You can read about in the allmusic.com review.

Jeff, I know nothing about this, I have probably received about 800 CDs to review over the last 8 years. I have written negative reviews on artists and still received more Cds. Sometimes I need a break from this onslaught, My regular publicists are…

Keep an eye out for my upcoming photos from this show. I have snapped off a number of photos of the majority of the performers. This was a real country music festival in Southern California. Who'd of thunk? Erik

Have fun today! We all appreciate your efforts to support local music... and great music in general. See you at the clubs. Maybe I'll be wearing my 3RC T-shirt!

That's a great bill. Two of my other favorites too; Dennis Brennan and Brown Bird!

You're talking about Ha Ha Tonka now, right? They did have a youthful look, as you can see in the video below. I actually got to talk to them at the BBBQ and they were nice guys to boot. I originally heard them on the Hearya.com Live Sessions. If y…

Good catch, Don! Looks like a good show. I saw Deadstring Brothers at the Bloodshot BBQ last summer at the Middle East. They put on a good show and had the largest audience of the day. I saw Sarah Borges and all of the Broken Singles in the crowd d…

Have fun. No tickets and busy week for me, so I won't be there. I'm in for Devil Makes Three with two of my local faves (Cassavettes and Brown Bird) at the Middle East on Thu and for Dave Rawlings Machine at Paradise on Sat.

Very cool! You're right that the Foundation Room is great. Although it is a private club and normally non-members need to b put on the guest list. Here's the info for that room: http://www.houseofblues.com/venues/clubvenues/boston/foundationroom.ph

I'm looking forward to M. Ward, Elvis Costello, Band of Heathens, Allen Toussaint, Steve Earle and most of all K'naan. ACL has their finger on the pulse of all music that is essential. One might not appreciate what they feature from time to time but…

I'm an equal opportunity person as far as ACL is concerned, but I don't really get the appeal of Kenny Chesney. For that matter I don't get the appeal of most mainstream country at all. I think Robert Earl Keen said it best in this little performanc…

Austin City Limits provided much of my musical education. It is the ONLY place I was exposed to a lot of great acts, which led me to other great artists. I have it on automatic series recording on my DVR still. Most recently I saw the Drive By Truck…

Welcome aboard, Ali. The best place for rock shows in Boston is Paradise, about 600? capacity. I saw DBT, Lucero and Son Volt there (separately). For smaller shows, there's The Middle East (several rooms, but Downstairs is for national acts and Upstairs more for local bands). For larger shows (2100? capacity), there's the new House of Blues..

For theater shows, there's The Orpheum, 2400? capacity. I also saw DBT playing with The Hold Steady (a surprizingly good pairing) at the Orpheum. They ocassionally have smaller theater shows at the Wilbur, 1200? capacity, which is a nice place. I saw Old 97's there last year.

For local bands, check out TOAD and Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. I would live at TOAD, if they let me. In Boston, check out Church, which is down by Fenway Park.

The Bloodshot BBQ was great. I'm now a big fan of that label and bought a T-shirt. Charlie Pickett did rock, but my favorite was Ha Ha Tonka. Justin Townes Earle (Steve's son) was also good.

Some of my favorite Boston bands are Girls Guns and Glory, Sarah Borges and Cassavettes. You can listen on their myspace pages. Google them.

Thanks for the heads up on the al.country group. I just joined. I hope I don't get kicked off if I don't go to enough shows. My husband and I are just getting settled in here after his relocation and I am looking for a job so we feel a bit unsettled but hopefully that will change and we can participate in your group more. He was at the Blooodshot event with our son and got to see Charlie Pickett who he LOVES. Charlie even sent him an out of print CD a week later just because my husband mentioned how much he loved it and couldn't get it anywhere. Cool guy. He and I are more into the rock and roll Old Stones sound than anything else so it was nice to see you guys have a pretty varied list. I am hoping to get a calendar started online with the best of these shows. I look forward to meeting you and your group at one of the shows soon. I am curious...where werethe Truckers playing? They are good friends of mine and I sent them a note about my move and mentioned that they better start playing up here so I am glad to hear they do....that is a huge relief. What venues tend to have the Son Volt, DBTs, etc...louder rock so to speak...not sit down and listen to bluegrass....that is not my thing...nothing against it I am just a get up and dance and have fun or I will fall asleep. ;-) I say that but Richard Buckner has always been a favorite of mine so it depends, you know? Thanks for the invite. Very happy to see that others are thinking like that-it's more fun when you get a group together than stand alone with no one to enjoy it with. Cheers!

Hi Jeff, I see you live in NH. We just started a new group on the ND website for the Boston area music scene and we would like to invite you to join. I know NH isn't Boston but it is for the the area and as far as I can tell, if a good show is happening then it doesn't matter whether it is in NH, MA or RI...We just started a few days ago and it's already growing and hopefully it will turn into a fun community of people and we can see some great shows. I am hoping to get a calendar started that will highlight the shows people on the list recommend. Anyway, consider this an invitation and by all means pass the word.... I hope to see on the site-Ali Williams
