Chris Aaland commented on No Depression's blog post 'Enter to win a signed copy of 'Steve Earle: The Warner Bros. Years' box set'
"I thought picking a favorite song from these three albums would be difficult - after all, they're the albums that Steve Earle released at perhaps the most critical point in his career. He'd just been released from prison and was overcoming…"

Chris Aaland commented on No Depression's blog post 'Win a copy of Kris Kristofferson's 'Feeling Mortal' CD'
"I had the chance to meet Kris when he played the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College in 2006. The day that tickets went on-sale, my buddy Michael and I bought four front-row tickets. We didn't want to miss a note. Kris delivered the…"

Chris Aaland commented on No Depression's blog post 'Exile On Main Street vs The White Album smackdown contest'
"It's like arguing about liking barbecue or Mexican better. Life would be boring if you didn't have both. Personally, I wish the debate were Rubber Soul vs. Let It Bleed. If you'd have asked me 20 years ago, I'd have been on the…"

Chris Aaland commented on No Depression's blog post 'Telluride Bluegrass Festival Blogging Contest'
"Having been to 13 straight Telluride Bluegrass Festivals, you'd think it would be tough to pick a lone highlight. Suprisingly, it's not. The 30th annual TBF, held in 2003, was one for the books. I'm part of the Front-of-the-Line gang,…"

Having been to 13 straight Telluride Bluegrass Festivals, you'd think it would be tough to pick a lone highlight. Suprisingly, it's not. The 30th annual TBF, held in 2003, was one for the books. I'm part of the Front-of-the-Line gang, a group of diehards who wait in line overnight for prime tarp real estate each day. Friendships, even romances, were born over the years. But '03 was different. I'd secured a press pass through my work at KDUR radio in Durango and didn't need to pull line duty.…See More

Chris Aaland replied to B. Dutch Seyfarth's discussion 'has flyfishing become more about the gear than actual fishing?' in the group Rocky Mountain Music
"Hard to say. I'm not a gear junkie, but seem to see my fly rod collection grow each year. I'm a sucker for garage sales and hand-me-downs from old dead guys. I tend to wear gear out, only to try and fix it with epoxy and duct tape. I was…"

Chris Aaland replied to B. Dutch Seyfarth's discussion 'Rocky Mountain Music Festivals - what's your favorite?' in the group Rocky Mountain Music
"I usually attend 5 or 6 festivals in the Rockies each year - Telluride Bluegrass, RockyGrass, the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, the Silverton Jamboree and the Pagosa Folk'n Bluegrass are annual highlights. I've done Telluride 13 years in a…"

Read "Top Shelf" each week in the Durango Telegraph or at www.durangotelegraph.com. I'm the nightlife and music columnist. It's basically 1,000 words each week dedicated to live music and drinking.

Tune in to my radio show from 8-10 p.m. Mountain Time each Wednesday night at www.kdur.org. My "Cask Strength" program features high-test Western: classic country, alt-country, bluegrass, old-time, folk, vintage R&B & rock from the '50s ... basically anything rootsy. If you're in the Durango area, KDUR's signal can be heard at 91.9 and 93.9 FM.

Durango Acoustic Music presents the Derailers at the Durango Arts Center in Durango, CO at 8 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 22. It's an all-ages show. Tickets cost $10 for DAM members and $15 for the general public. Durango Acoustic Music is a Colorado nonprofit organization that produces concerts in the Americana genres - alt-country, folk, bluegrass, blues, old-time, Cajun and rock. 2009-2010 marks our 20th season of bringing live music to the Four Corners area. Visit www.durangoacousticmusic.com for more information. I've been a member of DAM's board of directors for 13 years now.
