My heart just broke to hear that John-Alex passed away this morning. The world has lost his music and his wife and young daughter have lost a shining husband and father. Live loud my friends! Revel in the thunder. RIP John-Alex Mason.

Kathleen Edwards in Austin - 9/13/11
I was delighted when I found out that Kathleen Edwards would be playing in Austin, TX mere hours after I arrived back in this hot town. Her Asking for Flowers is one of my very favorite albums of recent years, and her blog posts have been filled with talk of her coming record for quite a long time. I've been dying to hear it. Here was my chance to get a taste of what the "new direction" she's has been hinting at is all about.

Carter Family Comics - Don't Forget This Song

Belated response - no I couldn't get to any more Meltdown (sadly). Had my own gig to do (a bit of Elgar, Borodin, Vaughn Williams - choral stuff). But your fantastic photos and words have helped keep the connection for me and my friend Hugh who came to 6 Strings and discovered your work independently. Incidentally we are going to see Martin Simpson's Trio at the lovely Arts Centre in Norwich on Wednesday (23rd) if you're still in the country. Will be a good evening I guarantee. I LOVE your photos! Especially the Pickathon ones and the Cajun ones. I'm working a bit with Joel Savoy. Yeah, there are some awesome bands that have terrible photos, so you are doing very necessary work! Keep it up!
