I was listening to …ahem…Taylor Swift’s new CD yesterday and the song “Dear John” seemed to be almost litigious in its teen-angst honesty and commentary on one of Ms. Swift’s relationships – and it got me thinking – what other songs are there about specific people, that really bitch? Apparently “Your Cheatin’ Heart” was about Audrey….? George and Tammy wrote several inspired by each other – of varying hues of bitterness and regret.
There are plenty of controversial country songs out there, but how many are (allegedly) about actual, specific people? “Sin City” by the Burritos was allegedly (That word is going to be used a lot) about Larry Spector..? The Burrito’s also changed the name of “Christine’s tune” to “Devil in Disguise” – about Miss Christine Frka when they felt somewhat guilty about portraying her in such an unflattering manner when she died.
OK – please correct me on anything I’ve got wrong – and feel free to add more of your own…but make sure you use the word “Allegedly”…
