YepRoc Recods Celebrates its 15th Anniversary: Thursday Night Lineup
I’m a gettin’ a bit old for this sort of thing — late nights, beer and loud music. Tough job but somebody has to do it.
Yep, Yeproc Records Records of Haw River, NC is 15 years old with a stable of wonderful genre crossing acts and it’s time to celebrate. As Nick Lowe says, in this case without irony and sarcasm, “I love my label.”
I wasn’t sure how things would go – a smaller private event on Wednesday had the full bands of Countdown Quartet, Southern Culture on the Skids, Los Straightjackets and the Fleshtones – and Thursday started with the trio Jukebox the Ghost, a band I expect will play well at frat parties, basically a less talented Ben Folds Five.
Thereafter a stream of acts came out solo and acoustic with short between act banter by MC John Wesley Harding who also gave a spirited performance of his new tune/video Making Love to Bob Dylan.
Eleni Mendell started us out playing a tiny little guitar but there’s nothing little about her music. She’s a got a great touch with her lyrics and a wry sense of humor
