WXCS and the independent musicians
Six years ago, WXCS 92.9FM began broadcasting in northwest Pennsylvania. We had an advertisement in the Loretta Lynn issue of No Depression telling the musician/ND reader “We want your music”…we got some CDs from this…what’s cool is that we weren’t even on-air yet. We began broadcasting July 1st, 2004 and fundamentally brought Americana to NW Pa. I have been to three Americana conferences in that time and have met many nice and talented people (Kyla included). We get blues CDs because we’re on a pro-blues listing somewhere in cyberspace and I think it’s awesome to get the salt-of-the-earth recordings of these hard working blues musicians. I also get Americana type CDs from New West, True North and a couple other labels, but I don’t seem to get recordings from very many indie Americana artists. Jeff Talmadge has kept me up to date with his releases of which I am grateful. We actually do play small/unknown artists on WXCS, quite often right next to “the legends”. It is a very gratifying feeling to mention hard working, creative musicians on-air. I invite any Americana artists to send us your CDs. We are interested in new releases (or recent releases). If you’re interested in doing this, contact me at wxcsfm@hotmail.com …Peace.
