Victoria’s young Quinn Bachand Joins Ashley MacIsaac on Tour this Summer

Canadian fiddle sensation Ashley MacIsaac has a new preferred sideman in Quinn Bachand. After noticing Quinn and his sister Qristina on Youtube, the Cape Breton fiddler became a mentor to the young duo who were nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2009 for their debut CD “Relative Minors”. 14 year old Quinn Bachand first joined Ashley onstage in 2009 at the Vancouver Celticfest, and has since played many shows with the popular fiddler, including Edmonton Folk Music Festival, The Celtic Colors International Festival (Cape Breton) and various 2010 Olympic events in Vancouver and Whistler. This summer, he rejoins MacIsaac for a series of shows in Ontario and the Maritimes including the prestigious Mariposa Folk Festival!

Blessed with with an accute ear and an innate sense of rhythm, Quinn Bachand is rapidly establishing himself as a gifted guitar player. He plays a range of styles including gypsy-jazz, but it is his Celtic stylings that are drawing the most attention. A focused and intense musician, Quinn has the ability to bring out the best in each tune. He astonishes fans with his diversity and skill, not just on guitar, but also on fiddle and banjo. He’s had the privilege of accompanying or opening for such well known musicians as Lunasa, Liz Carroll, John Doyle and Buddy McMaster, The Sultans of Swing, Mark Atkinson Trio, and many more!

Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Quinn began his musical training through Suzuki violin lessons at the age of 5. He continues his classical violin studies, having completed the Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 9 Violin exam this year. Quinn also loves to play jazz guitar, focusing on his favourite style, Gypsy jazz; he receives regular coaching and mentoring from Victoria jazz guitarist Rob Cheramy.
