The Redlands Palomino Company – Don’t Fade
At the risk of upsetting some other pretenders to the crown The Redlands Palomino Company are currently the UK’s top country rockers, I’d be delighted to be proven wrong though because if there is a band from these shores putting out better countrified roots rock than these guys then it’s a win-win for me.
It’s being four years since the bands last full length album Take Me Home was released, although we did have the four track EP She Is Yours to tide us over between then and now – you can read details of the trials and tribulations of balancing band, family and work lives in an excellent interview with the band at Americana UK
Don’t Fade is a ten track album featuring six numbers from the pen of Hannah Elton-Wall and three from husband Alex, the pair being the hub of band both play acoustic guitar on the album and share lead vocal duties in a kind of Lanegan / Campbell differential style, for now we’ll forgive Alex not finding time for more songs as he shouldered the additional responsibilities of engineering, mixing and production on the album, the tenth track well that’s a top notch cover of The Dillards One A.M.
Laying down that all important rhythm are Rain on bass and Dan Tilbury on drums, the essential twang and jingle-jangle are provided by Tom Bowen (lead, rhythm, dobro and acoustic guitars) and Dave Rothon (pedal steel) with additional support on the recording from The Rosellys and Juliet Tomlinson (cello).
Stand out’s for me the opener Call Me Up, title track Don’t Fade and The Boat, but don’t be tempted to cherry pick with downloads, get yourself a copy of the CD completing the whole experience with great artwork ,full lyrics and the low down on the kit and people that made it happen- buy at Clubhouse Records online shop or Amazon
Any UK bands out there want a shot at the title, get in touch, it would be a pleasure to hear from you.
You can listen to the title track here and pick up Call Me Up for free at the bands website.
