The Noam Pikelny Short Film
So my kid sent me this video link that he found about Noam Pikelny, thinking I might like to see it. To quote him, “I thought this was kind of funny and relevant to your interests.” In all honesty, I’ve never heard of this guy Noam Pikelny, but that sort of makes sense because he’s just a banjo player.
I mean, I like a good roll as much as the next guy, but we all know it’s the guitar, fiddle, bass and mandolin that drives that crazy bluegrass sound we all crave. The banjo player is like a drummer in a rock band: better heard than seen. But the folks at Funny or Die must have had a different vision, and so along with Steve Martin, Ed Helms, Gillian and Dave, and a few other scenesters y’all know, they have put together this short film about Noam’s new album.
Imagine…a banjo player (other than you know who and that other guy) putting out his own solo album. Makes about as much sense as Ginger Baker, Ringo Starr or Phil Collins. Enjoy.
