“The Marshall Tucker Band” – Greatest Hits – A Review
In my opinion, it just does not get better than this, in song selection that is, all of the songs are from their first 5 Albums, dating from 1973-1977. I first saw them in 1973 and last saw them in 1977, opening up for the Grateful Dead at Englishtown ,NJ. This was an exciting time in jam music and southern rock. I had each of these five albums on vinyl. Boy, did they sound great, This band could really make great studio efforts from “The Marshall Tucker Band” to “Carolina Dreams“.
The artwork is very nice on this package. I remember reviewing some of the CDS that Shout Factory mastered a few years ago. Shout Factory did a great job on the CD mastering. They came from Rhino, which does such a great job releasing Grateful Dead vault material.
This CD is super Loud, so if you get it, start with the volume low as you could blow out your speakers if it was turned fully up. Shout Records did not do the Mastering, Doug Gray helped out a guy in a local Spartanburg , SC, company called Southeastern Sound.
This is the Capricorn era, there used to be an eight song greatest hits CD, that came out in 1978, but no longer is available. There are 14 songs included here from those five CDs, all of the songs are great stuff.
