The Lucky Strikes “We Are Waves” (Stovepony 2010)
I’ve been a bit remiss and never before given a shout out to a great UK Americana rock band The Lucky Strikes, so to put the record straight I’d like to point you all in the direct of their single released today from their forthcoming album Gabriel, Forgive My 22 Sins which I’ve had the pleasure of getting an advance copy.
Gabriel, Forgive My 22 Sins is a concept album based around the story of boxer Frankie Valentinez and the battle for his soul, now don’t be ducking for cover at the words concept and album in the same breath – this really is a great piece of work and follows on from the bands previous concept album The Chronicles Of Solomon Quick which tells a fictional tale of blues legend Robert Johnson’s demise at the hands of Solomon Quick which is a real treat and one to get your hands on ASAP.
The single was released digitally earlier this week – you can get We Are Waves at iTunes and Amazon.
The band have done several festivals this year and filled a number of support slots including backing up The Wonderstuff and The Jim Jones Revue. More recently, Mat Boulter the bands frontman has also guested with Simone Felice including playing lap-steel during The Duke and The King talismans headline appearance at the Green Man Festival.
The album gets a formal release on Stovepony Records in January 2011 but is available in advance at some live shows I understand, in the meantime you can listen to some tracks at @ MySpace and get your hands on the bands previous albums from Zingg
