Sturgill Simpson rocks Dublin

Sitting here after midnight puffing on a cigar and high as a kite ( don’t take  alcohol or other artificial media , depend on music to reach my special place )My younger brother insisted a month ago that  I go with him to Whelans to watch some guy called Sturgill Simpson , who I had never heard of . Life being what it is , I came across the name a lot afterwards , in Uncut , in Maverick and in ND . So , went along tonight .I did not have any of his albums thinking to pick them up at the gig but could not see any . Will be buying everything I can find on Amazon . So I can’t list the songs .All I know is that I came away from somethimg special , a tight band who know what they are doing and obviously enjoy themselves .Mr Simpson is really special , focused  , committed ,,intelligent with a voice to die for and a hell of an attitude .Lyrics sounded good ( need to listen on my i pod when albums arrive ) .It has been said that he is the ” new thing ” in (alt) country music , he is not new , he is as old as the hills and part  of a wonderful tradition ….andthat  connection makes him very special indeed .I may never see him live  again as I doubt he will be playing small venues  in the future and I hate the bigger venues , but by God he rocked my world tonight .
