For those of you who haven’t heard, Slick Aguilar, the Jefferson Starship’s great guitarist, is facing dire health problems.
Recently diagnosed with hepatits C, the 58-year-old musician is planning to move to Florida, where he stands a better shot of getting the liver transplant he needs to survive.
He needs money for all this to happen, and he’s too sick to tour, so some friends of his are trying to help out.
A Benefit for Slick Aguilar, billed as an acoustic evening with David Crosby and Jefferson Airplane founding member Marty Balin and friends, emceed by Country Joe McDonald, will take place at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on Sunday, Feb. 24. Doors open at 7 and the show, which is sure to be sterling – this is the first time Balin and Crosby have played acoustically together in decades – starts at 8 pm. Prices are $50 for the show and $74.95 with dinner. Other artists expected to play are Big Brother and the Holding Company, Elvin Bishop and members of the Eddie Money band – as well as Aguilar himself.
