Artists of notable interest for NO DEPRESSION members:
30db – One Man Show: A visceral and personal new album from SCI Fidelity Records on, is an astonishing and unexpected collaboration by the duo known as 30db – guitarist Brendan Bayliss of the improvisational Chicago band Umphrey’s McGee and mandolinist Jeff Austin of Boulder’s top-flight Americana unit Yonder Mountain String Band.
By turns affectingly subdued and passionately hard-rocking, One Man Show is a moving account of busted relationships; within months of each other, Austin and Bayliss both witnessed the end of their marriages. Working from their shared perspective, the two musicians wrote, edited, and shaped the 14 tracks that make up One Man Show together.
For the album, and along tour stops this spring, the two long-time friends and tour mates are backed by a masterful band that includes Cody Dickinson of the North Mississippi All Stars on drums, percussion, and keyboards; guitarist Nick Forster, from the groundbreaking newgrass group Hot Rize and host of the syndicated radio show “E-Town”; and highly sought after player/producer and Open Road bassist and Eric Thorin.
The String Cheese Incident – Trick or Treat: Over the past two decades, The String Cheese Incident has emerged as one of America’s most significant independent bands. Their 17 year history is packed full of surreal experiences, epic moments, groundbreaking involvement and huge accomplishments.
Born in 1993 in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, SCI has since released 8 albums, 3 DVDs and countless live recordings from their relentless tour schedule. They have been recognized for their commitment to musical creativity and integrity, for their community spirit, philanthropic endeavors, and for their innovative approach to the business of music.
All the while, The String Cheese Incident has stayed committed to music as a creative endeavor, not just in their recordings but also in their live performances. The list of SCI’s special guests and collaborators is long and diverse. Their annual events such as Horning’s Hideout, and holiday shows such as New Year’s and Halloween, have helped redefine the concert experience and has garnered the band a reputation as live music vibe innovators. Back now after an almost two year break from recording and touring, look for select “Incidents” in 2010.
The String Cheese Incident unveils their new limited edition live release, Trick Or Treat, on October 27, 2009. The timing is fitting, considering the nine-disc box set album was culled from a variety of epic SCI “Hulaween” shows. From 1998-2004, Trick or Treat journeys through the years to re-visit some of the band’s most classic Incidents from Halloween’s past.
Keller & The Keels – Thief: Since he first appeared on the scene in the early ’90s, Keller Williams has defined the independent artist. Most of his career has been spent performing as a one-man band—his stage shows are built around Keller singing his compositions and choice covers while accompanying himself with an acoustic guitar connected to a Gibson Echoplex delay system that allows him to simulate a full band.
Williams’ solo live shows—and his ability to improvise to his determinedly quirky tunes despite the absence of an actual band—quickly became the stuff of legend, and his audience grew exponentially once word spread about this exciting, unpredictable performer. Keller’s albums, meanwhile, were embraced by a wide community of music fans. Among his albums—Thief is his 15th—Williams singles out 2003’s Dance, consisting of remixes from the earlier Laugh record, as a personal favorite.
Keller and the husband and wife duo of Larry and Jenny Keel created this a masterful follow-up to their popular 2006 album Grass. Thief is comprised entirely of unique bluegrass renditions of songs originally written and recorded by a diverse group of musicians, from Amy Winehouse to the Grateful Dead, the Butthole Surfers to Kris Kristofferson.
Emmit Nershi Band – New Country Blues: As founders of popular touring bands, both Drew Emmitt (Leftover Salmon) and Bill Nershi (The String Cheese Incident) have traveled the world and played in front of hundreds of thousands of people. Over the years, as they would cross musical paths at various shows & festivals, a strong friendship was forged. But it wasn’t until recently that they could find the time to pick, have fun, and create bluegrass music together!
With New Country Blues (September 29th, SCI Fidelity Records), the Emmitt-Nershi Band has fully realized its potential. With Emmitt on mandolin & vocals, Nershi on acoustic guitar and vocals, Andy Thorn on banjo (Larry Keel, Drew Emmitt Band), and Tyler Grant on bass (Drew Emmitt Band), ENB delivers a dynamic blend of bluegrass, newgrass, country and Americana that is sure to excite fans of all those genres and more! Special guests on the album – recorded in Nershi’s home studio in Nederland, CO – include Jason Carter (Del McCoury Band) and Keith Moseley (String Cheese Incident).

The Contribution – Which Way World: The new release recorded by supergroup collective The Contribution – is the kind of debut album that only seasoned musicians can produce.Featuring the stellar contributions of Tim Carbone – violin, vocals (Railroad Earth), Jeff Miller – guitar, mandolin, vocals (New Monsoon), Phil Ferlino – keyboards (New Monsoon), Keith Moseley – bassist (The String Cheese Incident) and Jason Hann – percussion (The String Cheese Incident), the Americana-tinged music on Which Way World is full and free-wheeling, offering exceptional chops that never overshadow the stand-out songwriting.
