This month’s Best of the Month playlist features roots musicians from all across No Depression‘s existence. Some of the earliest artists that No Depression originally covered — like Johnny Cash, Dave Alvin, and Del McCoury — sit alongside newer musicians like Spotlight artist Kaitlin Butts and the bluegrassers in Never Come Down, who won the FreshGrass Band Award in 2021 (presented by No Depression‘s nonprofit publisher, the FreshGrass Foundation). June also saw great collaborations among roots musicians on LPs and singles, including music by supergroups like Bonny Light Horseman and Wood Box Heroes.
