Today, Miko & The Musket premiere their new single, “On Your Mark.” Taken from their forthcoming self-titled EP, due for release this September, the single is an infectious combination of jazz infused indie-folk, with a subtle R&B undertones.
The track kicks off with a vintage rock guitar riff, and we are shortly greeted by frontman, Miko’s spirited voice that has the soothing buttery undertones of a hip hop artist. Already- it’s becoming hard for me to pin point one overarching genre of Miko & The Musket. But, then again, coming to a fluent and coherent sound by a band comprised of seven, very different musicians is no easy task. It seems though that front man Miko has really come to in his role for this second release. With the track constantly changing and taking us on a journey that perfectly showcases each individual member, it never seems disjointed or removed from where it first began. The track teeters off into a soft, acapella bridge, building up to a climactic and perfectly emphatic rocked out finish that is impossible to ignore.
The track is the first to come off their new self-titled release, and is a notable step forward for the band. While we can still hear the blissful folk roots that were so apparent on their previous, The Georgia Sessions EP, “On Your Mark” is a nod to the new found influences of the seven piece, and their willingness to explore them. “This whole song really is pure Miko and the Musket,” muses guitarist Mike Steinmetz. And after hearing “On Your Mark,” I think we can all agree that’s something we want to hear more of.
