Malcolm Holcombe in Concert and Conversation at The Coffee Shop Strathpeffer Scotland 21st January
Sure. There are the inevitable comparisons to Tom Waits, but that’s mostly due to Malcolm Holcombe’s dark blue minstrelsy, delivered in a burned up voice and with the presence and pertinence of a deconstructed John Prine but truth be told Malcolm is a one off mound breaker of a character.
Mr Holcombe was in Scotland for Celtic Connections and one other date with Emma Shearer and Matt Sillars on the 21st of January which was recorded for The Medicine Showand is already an early contender for gig of the year at Emma and Matt’s inaugural Acoustic Thursday Strathpeffer Coffee Shop Sessions, Rob Ellen chatted to Malcolm and captured these films of the evening.
Emma Shearer and Matt Sillars host the Acoustic Thursday Strathpeffer Coffee Shop Sessions, they keep an open mic night going every second Thursday and hook up with The Medicine Show to present a guest once a month, here are Emma and Matt from their opening performance.
