Lucinda Williams’ Rough Trade Album Set For Re-Release On January 14, 2014
As a follow-up to my summer post, the 25th anniversary re-release of Lucinda Williams’ Rough Trade Album is set for January 14, 2014 on Lucinda Williams Music/Thirty Tigers Records.
The two-disc reissue features remastered versions taken from the original analog tapes of the original recordings, as well as a bonus disc containing a previously unreleased live recording of a 1989 Eindhoven, Netherlands performance and six live radio tracks done during the same frame.
While the live tracks have been available on bootleg recordings for years and passed around by loyal fans it will be extremely nice to hear first generation versions of the songs. And speaking of fans, it was during the research for the re-release that Tom & Lu became aware of hundreds of live recordings, both radio and concert, brought to their attention by Lu’s many fans, myself included.
Video clips were were also to be originally included, but securing their rights was problematic.
Additionally, an expanded booklet will include never before seen photos and new liner notes by Rough Trade’s Robin Hurley and writer Chris Morris. Apparently, a cropped version of the original cover will be used as the cover. Lu’s fans were given the opportunity to choose and they overwhelming liked the cropped over the original.
The sets will be available on CD, vinyl and digital. However, it appears as though the vinyl version will be a single record containing only the tracks from the original 1988 record. In lieu of a second record there will be a download card for the bonus tracks.
