Listen to Quarter Mile Thunder, the First Act Signed to Chicago’s Big Star Recording Co.
Booze, tacos, and vinyl records… Is there a better trifecta? Chicago’s Big Star thinks not, so much so that the beloved taco shop and bar just launched its own record label, Big Star Recording Co., as proof.
For the label’s first signing, Big Star inked Quarter Mile Thunder, the nom d’artiste of songwriter (and Big Star employee) Ben Clarke. Like Big Star, Clarke is a mainstay of the Chicago roots music scene, and is preparing to release his debut album Bucking the Tiger on September 29.
Ahead of that album’s release, ND has a premiere of the new Quarter Mile Thunder track “Fallen Out” and its accompanying music video. Directed by Joseph Desler Costa, the intimacy of the clip nicely mirrors the woozy vulnerability of the track.
“I set out to make a record which I consider a love letter to Big Star,” Clarke says. “‘Fallen Out’ was the first song I wrote for this record and it went on to really dictate the overall vibe. It gave me a newfound confidence in myself, like I found a weird new room I didn’t know existed in my home. It led the way for a kind of nostalgia I tried to imbue upon the record as a whole.”
