Kerrville/Grassy Hill New Folk Finalist!
I found out yesterday evening that I have been
selected as a 2009 Kerrville New Folk Finalist! This is one of the most
prestigious competitions in the nation for Folk Music and has been
around since before I was born. Past finalists include a bevy of
successful artists like Lucinda Williams. I was allowed to submit 2 songs and I sent “BlackTop Road”
and “Field of Sorrow”. My submission was one of 32 chosen out of over
800 entries. What makes this even nicer is these entries are “Judged
Blindly” meaning the judges do not see any pictures or read any bios in
making their decision. They do not even know the name of the artist
they are listening to. So they are purely basing their decision on the
strength of the song and the performance. Next month I will be going to
TX to compete. Whether or not I win is less important than the honor of
being chosen a finalist.
