Jonny Corndawg: Down On The Bikini Line’s Kickstarter Campaign
I often feel very lucky that many of my favorite musicians are separated by only a few degrees. And I feel even luckier that many of them prefer each other’s company and are in fact close friends. Not only does this make for consistently amazing musical marriages onstage and in the studio, it also keeps this gal in a steady diet of the music and sounds that she loves.
Most recently this has led to the discovery of Jonny Corndawg. If you’re a fan of Justin Townes Earle, Josh Hedley, Caitlin Rose, or the Deer Tick/Middle Brother boys, chances are you’ve either seen Corndawg live already or at least heard his name mentioned. Currently, in between criss-crossing the country playing shows, Jonny has been pounding the Internet pavement to get his latest album Down On The Bikini Line released. (If you’d like a taste of the new album, I highly recommend Jonny’s Daytrotter session: http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/jonny-corndawg-concert/20031072-3738278.html, which has been in heavy rotation around here).
While the man is a masterful leatherworker, (http://whenyouawake.com/2011/03/07/style-find-jonny-corndawgs-leather-work/) and the video below clearly displays Corndawg’s knack for panhandling, I can’t help but be partial to his singing gig, so let’s help him keep it! If you’re anything like me and just can’t help but love a man who explores the funny, sad, and sweet of the world all wrapped up in a good old fashioned country song, be sure to show Jonny some ND love over at his Kickstarter page before Bikini Line’s May 1st deadline. I really can’t praise Kickstarter enough. Not only are there great extras involved with each pledge level, you actually walk away with the satisfaction of directly contributing to the causes of your favorite artists and making sure their art has a fighting chance at seeing the light of day.
And you have to admit, no one can fill a subway with an ode to feminine hygiene quite like this boy…
