Greater Pacific: the morning web-surf leads to a nice find
I sure wish the tech gods here at ND would allow me to post this video but something is amiss. So please do me a favor…click on the link below, watch it and then come back. I’ll wait….
There’s this woman named Christine who I’ve known for like a million years. I met her when she was just a kid and worked at Tower Records in West Covina, which is about 15 miles east of Hollywood. She later worked at the Pasadena location when I was at Capitol where her best friend Susan also worked and we’d talk every now and then on the phone and maybe bump into each other at shows…all of which has little to do with this video and song and probably has no interest to you whatsoever.
But anyway…Christine married a guy named Mike who’s the drummer with a band called Travel By Sea, and they recorded a song called “Split Second Time” that somehow landed on my iTunes a while back and I really like it a lot. They have three albums out(which I don’t have today but might get tomorrow), and play from time to time around Southern California. Following this?
OK…so this morning I happened to visit a reviewer’s site that I go to every now and then, and I saw that this band Greater Pacific’s new EP called Rainfall was posted. And while listening to the music and reading the bio, it turns out to be a side project from Kyle Kersten and John Phinney from Travel By Sea. And Christine’s husband Mike Cusick is on drums and there’s harmony vocals by Angela Correa. Ah…finally I make the connection.
The only problem with this six song EP from Canadian-based Yer Bird Records is that it’s too damn short and leaves you wanting to hear more. I love that the pedal steel drips like thick molasses around the vocals and guitar work, and the songs have a certain weight to them that I don’t hear all that often. It’s made for a good start to my day.
Hope you like the video…and check out the music from both bands.
