Artist To Watch: The Villains
The eight tracks on the debut album by The Villains is a look into the eyes and hearts of a band with real life stories to tell. From the breezy optimism of ‘Let’s Forget About It Tonight’ to the reflective musings of a band on the road in ‘Going Deaf For A Living’, The Villains weave a seamless backdrop of rock, pop and country that speaks to the soul. The sound is fun and reflective….they think you’ll agree.
The six members ( Magno, Dan Call, Sean McNally, Michael Wilkes, Jimmy James Schmitt, and Alan Schaefer) all have a rich history of writing, recording ,and touring. Each of them has recorded and performed with many mainstream and indie artists from Nashville to New York, as well as touring the world together and individually.
What started as a recording project for Magno, Dan, Sean, and Mike after three years on the road with Nashville recording artist Keni Thomas (along the way opening for Dwight Yoakum, Montgomery Gentry, and Trace Atkins… just to name a few) quickly turned into a record. The idea was thrown around to bring in two friends and co-writers ,Jimmy and Alan, and have them sing and play as well. In the spirit of acts such as The Band, The Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac, the blend of different singers and styles solidified the sound rather than compromising it.
Three of the tunes are co-writes with Peter Stroud (guitarist for Sheryl Crow, Don Henley) and features him on guitar as well. The record was recorded by Chris Griffin (Live, Drivin N Cryin) and mixed by Chris and Russ Fowler (Stone Temple Pilots, Offspring) at Griffin Mastering Studios in Atlanta, between December 08 and May 09.
The Villains hope you’ll kick back, have a beer, and enjoy the record. The experience was a true labor of love between friends and they look forward to coming to your town and sharing it with you!
