Anne Tello: Speaking Up & Singing Out
Anne Tello performing at Leftfield on the LES was a treat on an April evening. The concert, ARTE ES VIDA, put together to literally give a voice to all different causes that a group of talented, female musicians support. The night harked back to what is best about being an artist in NYC. I caught three performers at the hidden dive on Ludlow between Delancey and Broome. Anne Tello performed between two experimental groups; Dream Circle (electronic/world/hiphop band) and Ashni.
The icing on the cake that evening was when Ashni started about her third number into her set, the freedom and beat was too enticing- the drummers (of other artists), and even an audience member (who happened to have his flute) could not hold back and started an impromptu jam session behind Ashni. The generous artist incorporated audience members and Anne’s “dreams” into a song completely put together off the cuff. Continuing the theme of granting dreams, the charities supported included Earth H20, Helping Hands Network, The Help Network and Red Hook Art Network and each charity was represented and had a representative shed light on the importance of the organization.
Ms. Tello, an alt-pop singer/songerwriter, originally from Palo Alto, CA dazzled in a slightly edgy, gold number. Her performance was definitely the most refined. She has a completely entertaining persona that she goes into when she takes the stage. Her powerful presence with a touch of goofiness is backed up with some seriously impressive vocals, hitting high (almost whistle) notes with such control and precision. Anne is recording her album at Phantom Studio in NYC and the full-length album should be released this fall!
Anne Tello sang her latest single, “Maybe Tomorrow,” off her soon to be released album, that fans of United Kingdom’s female pop divas, Duffy and Adele would enjoy. Her voice is on par with some true pop powerhouses. ARTE ES VIDA was all about letting creative juices flow and collaborating for great causes with superb musicanship.
