Andy Griffith….thanks for the memories
The man who for eight years played Sheriff Andy Taylor from the fictional town of Mayberry, has passed away this morning at age 86. An actor, musician and singer, Andy’s show was a gateway for many of us to bluegrass. He often featured the Dillards (playing as The Darlings) and the video below includes rare footage of Roland and Clarence White.
I had recently written about this show and the music it featured when a few weeks ago George “Goober” Lindsay passed away. Click here for Growing Up Country in Suburbia. Not to retread, but the importance to many of us post WW2 baby boomers who grew up in city and suburbs was the introduction to a rural way of life that we never had a chance to experience first hand. And the amazing music.
There will be plenty written about Andy over the next week, so instead of going to Wikipedia and cutting and pasting, I’m going to post a couple of things and say thank you for the laughs, the music and the memories.
Rest in peace.
