American Roots and Celtic Connections
Glasgows winter Festival Celtic Connections stalwart roots show The Transatlantic Sessions has already sold out, but there are other Roots/Americana options. The highlights include the Rounder Records 40th Anniversary Concert. Iconic folk singer Linda Thompson is on host duties and will introduce some of the biggest acts on the label’s roster including headliners Blue Highway, bluegrass vocalist Alecia Nugent, folk rocker Sarah Harmer and the wonderfull James Hand. (Pictured right) Nashville singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman returns to the festival to perform songs from her new album and Holly Williams (granddaughter of Hank) who carried on the Williams musical legacy with last year’s Here With Me CD is featured. Tom Russell headlines a Texas Songwriters night with fellow Lone Star State performers Kimmie Rhodes, Sam Baker and Slaid Cleaves. Other look out for gigs around the smaler venues of the city are Bearfoot, African-American string band Carolina Chocolate Drops, old-time troubadours The Wiyos, and The Deadly Gentlemen, Red Stick Ramblers with Hot Club Of Cowtown
Also lookout for a return to the Festival of Robby Hecht and a rare apperance of Malcolm Holcombe and The Medicine Show will be recording Gandalph Murphy and The Slambovian Circus Of Dreams for later broadcast more news of that here
