Aleko enlightens and delightens with his latest release, Amity, which has quickly become a favorite in my album collection. Hailing from New Jersey, Aleko brings a dose of nostalgic Folk, with the intensity of a unique and updated twist. He’s been compared to the likes of Hozier and Bon Iver, but the music he creates tends to go above and beyond to strike a chord with listeners.
Amity, his debut EP release, is an impressive collection of songs that share his intricate instrumentation to the world. Sharing the first single and video this year for “Hold On Me,” the song drew me in immediately and without hestitation. Aleko, though he may be young, shares the musical professionalism of a musician wise beyond his years.
Pieces such as “Why Am I,” and “See How Far,” became instant favorites, with stunning guitar playing, and Aleko’s voice knowing just where to go. Though the sound Aleko creates is familar from afar, his biggest task is setting himself apart from the rest, which he has no problem doing so. In the world of hundreds (and hundreds) of Folk Singer-Songwriters, Aleko stands among the best that I have heard in quite a while.
Song after song he will impress you and steal your heart with a song.
Aleko’s Amity is out now via Bandcamp.
