Country Music comes in many different shapes and sizes. It also is affected by which region it might be from. When one thinks of Mississippi, you might immediately think of the Blues. That is true. But if you really dig in and look, country music and the artists that play it are also part of that greasy blend from the delta.
Sean Gasaway is one of those such artists. With the release of Mississippi Vol. 1, you can almost feel that honest to god feel of damn country music.
“Little Itty Bitty Mississippi Town,” a song co-written by Gasaway starts this album off is as honest a tribute and to one’s own home as could be written. What makes this song so important though, is the fact it could describe any of our hometowns.
“Aquaholic,” is a greasy little ditty about being addicted to the water, the ocean and living on the coast. Makes one realize that Jimmy Buffett or Mac MacAnally would’ve wanted to have written this song.
Tying things up is “Ain’t Jesus,” Gasaway is a spiritual artist and isn’t ashamed to tell that to the world. He’s also a proud Mississippian, “Mississippi isn’t just the place I was born and raised, it’s my way of life, it is the music in my blood,” Gasaway states.
It’ll do your body good to give a listen to Mississippi Vol. 1, that greasy, salty feel is what the doctor ordered.
