1) LATEST “HAITI EARTHQUAKE FUNDRAISER” CONCERT…
+
a) First, there’s this: not music, but cool: Friday, Feb 19 is the 7 pm “SPECIAL FORUM ON HAITI, as The Topanga Peace Alliance and The Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica Mountains present “WE ARE ALL HAITIANS!” with Margaret Prescod, KPFK Radio Host, Ben Guillory of the Robey Theater Company, Martin & Sue Schmitt of “We Can Build an Orphanage” (and they did, in Haiti), at the Topanga Community House, 1440 Topanga Canyon Bl, Topanga Canyon 90290. Sponsors say, “Get the true story behind Haiti’s impoverishment at the hands of the ‘developed’ countries. Learn about the incredible spirit of the Haitian people. Find out why Haitian President Aristide was deposed, and by whom.” Program includes an opportunity to donate directly to The Haiti Emergency Relief Fund, Partners in Health, We Can Build an Orphanage, and the Lambi Fund, so you can “Make sure your money goes to Haitians!” Doors at 6:30 pm, program starts at 7. Bring a potluck dish or dessert to share. (TPA notes this event is in place of their February meeting.)
+
Directions to the Community House from the 101: take Topanga Cyn Bl south into the heart of the canyon. Take the first left after Cheney (also on the left – at night look on the left for the sign Ozark Walk). Go up and up the hill and park as close to the large brick building as possible. If you are still on Topanga and see the driveway for the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum (or Froggy’s) you have gone too far. From PCH or the town of Topanga, head north on Topanga and turn right across from the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, not too far after passing Froggy’s. More info at www.TopangaPeaceAlliance.org

Starring DENISE MOURGES. As a teenage dancer, Denise opened for THE ROLLING STONES at their first concert in America. Then, she opened for THE BEATLES at Shea Stadium and on their U.S tour that same year (1965), and she danced on TV’s “Hullabaloo.” As a bicoastal, envelope-pushing rock-and-rollian, Denise became friends with Jimi Hendrix, Gram Parsons, and many other prominent musicians. Denise says, “I learned a lot about music from them, spending hours in studios as they made records still relevant, fresh and alive.” Later, Denise wrote on music, law, medicine and lifestyle for Entertainment Weekly and The New York Times. Accompanied by friends, Denise sings a selection of torch songs that she has chosen because they “reveal a core human bond transcendent of borders: the broken heart.”
+
Accompanying Denise are:
+
JOHN HUG on acoustic and electric guitars. John has been in on the creation of over 300 LPs, working with a roster of talent spanning Don Henley, Cher, Eddie Kendricks, Waylon Jennings, Jackie De Shannon, Gregg Allman and Burt Bachrach. His production credits include songs from the soundtrack LP for the movie “Ghostbusters” and Marty Balin of the Jefferson Airplane.
+
JANA LEE ROSS, pianist and musical director. Jana (pronounced jay-na) is Musical Director of KCME classical radio in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As a vocalist / pianist, Jana performs regularly in that city, often with her jazz combo HIDDEN AGENDA.
+
