3 Girls & Their Buddy and My Quest for the “Telluride Contest”
You know, I always felt I was a lucky person.
My friends always comment that things just seem to go my way, like I score great front row tickets to a concert, or I win round trip tickets by air, or I run into Lyle Lovett face-to-face on a cruise ship.
Well, maybe I’m lucky (as in punk) and maybe I use every advance planning edge at my disposal.
So right up front I have to tell you I am in love with Emmylou Harris, always have been (since the mid 70’s) and still am (at a concert a year or so ago my wife threatened to find me a drool bib as we sat on on the front row).
Beyond that, I think Buddy Miller is the best singer/song writer/performer of the current millineum.
Period.
Any questions?
So add in Patty Griffin and Shawn Colvin and you have a lineup worth more than just the price of admission.
About a month or so my wife and I and our best friend couple rode the high seas on the Norwegian Dawn for Cayamo and a Singer/Songwriter cruise with a ton of musical acts.
We planned this excursion for over a year, highlighting out Twice as Nice performer as Buddy Miller (Patty and Shawn were also as advertised, but alas, no Emmy).
A week before the cruise, the sad news that Buddy had experienced heart problems after a show in Baltimore, and surgery followed, so with sad hearts but ardent prayer for Buddy we went on the cruise, and Shawn took his place as our main ticket.
Boarding a roller coaster of a cruise (my gyro never did get balanced) we saw Patty and Shawn in multiple performances, so what more can we say! (and that includes Patty and her Cabana Boy, so just ask her about it!)
Now we have the “early sale” for next years cruise, which looks to include 3 Girls and Their Buddy, but as Wall Street would have it, out funds are terribly low.
Alas, maybe Telluride in June will fit our pocketbook, and if you choose us, we can blog you to death with feedback to No Depression on our concert reviews. We even promise to stay up late!
PLEASE, choose us, please, blog us back, as we want to be your eyes and ears in June if we win the “Telluride Contest”.
Peace and happiness (kudos to the Rev Al Green)
