This is an awesome video interview. I never got to know Stephen personally, but Ms. Kathleen and Sumter are some of the best folks in Texas and Record Town is still a wonderful place to blow a Saturday morning. Stephen's albums where first class and his guitar/mandolin playing were always excellent. I felt so saddened by his passing, but he left a very nice legacy of friendship, love and artistry that his family and friends can always be proud of.

Great piece on a very under-sung artist.

Folks should check out the last project Stephen worked on: Geoff Muldaur's Texas Shieks.

Two of Stephen's best producing efforts were Geoff's albums Password and Secret Handshake.

Also, try to find a copy of his first solo album, which contains one of the best kiss off lines ever:

"Kiss my ass 'til my hat falls off, so long I going South."

He played here at the El Rey Theater about three years ago, and laughed from the stage when I hollered: "Make my hat fall off!" . . . but he didn't play the song. Oh well. He had better taste than I do, I guess.

A great guy.

Thanks Kyla, that was great to see.
I still can't believe he's gone.

Great story. I'll always remember Stephen as the young guitar slinger next to the Silver-Tongued Devil from my 2nd row seats at Kleinhan's in Buffalo just on the release of that sophomore album back in '71.
